This workshop that will teach you how to build an annual fundraising plan that will raise more money with your very next donor communication and retain more of your donors so you’ll raise much more money over time.
At the heart of this training is the Ask, Thank, Report, Repeat rhythm developed by Jim Shapiro and Steven Screen from The Better Fundraising Company. This fundraising rhythm increases revenue and deepens the relationship between your organization and your donors.
During the training event you will learn best practices for each step in the rhythm:
- When to Ask, how often to Ask, and the best ways to Ask.
- How to Thank your donors in a way that leads to more donations.
- How to Report in a way that thrills your donors and makes them more likely to give again.
- Track our performance in order to build an annual plan that’s repeatable (and improvable) each year.
The system is effective because it is based on a clear understanding of what’s really happening when a donor gives a gift, and on studying the fundraising results from hundreds of organizations to see what works and what doesn’t. That’s it.

- How to tell stories so that your donors love them and love donating to you
- The rhythm your communications should follow to meet your donors’ needs
- What to do next with your major donors
This is not fundraising theory from a professor, or a presentation that makes you feel great but you don’t know what to do when you get back to the office.
Your facilitators are nationally-known experts presenting what’s working and what’s not working in fundraising today, with real life examples and results for you to learn from.

Steven Screen – Steven has 22 years of fundraising experience as a writer, account executive and creative director. He is co-founder of The Better Fundraising Co. Steven previously owned and operated UberDirect, an advertising agency specializing in direct-response fundraising. He is the co-host of the Fundraising Is Beautiful podcast and a past winner of the Direct Mail Package Of the Year award from Fundraising Success magazine. Steven is married and has 3 kids.

Jim is co-founder of The Better Fundraising Co. and has more than 20 years’ experience serving and working in the nonprofit sector. Jim previously owned and operated The EDGE Group, a fundraising-consulting agency that executed numerous successful fundraising campaigns. He is the former Vice President of Development at CRISTA Ministries. Jim is married and has 3 kids. He volunteers his time as an advocate for foster-kids and as the Head Football Coach at King’s High School in Seattle.
