Donor Advised Funds
The “Charitable Checking Account”
A Donor Advised Fund gives you the flexibility to support the charitable causes you care about most in an easy, effective way.
We sometimes call it a “charitable checking account” because you can recommend grants to charitable organizations whenever you want. Whether there is an urgent need in your community or you want to make your annual charitable contributions, a Donor Advised Fund allows you to give when the time is right.
It’s Like Having Your Own Foundation
The fund is invested for growth, which allows you to make annual gifts of income and principal while you are alive. After your lifetime, your children or other designee(s) may make grant recommendations from the fund. Or, if you decide not to assign a designee, the fund balance will become an asset of our organization, helping to further the good work of the foundation.
It’s Easy to Get Started
Opening a Donor Advised Fund is easy! Simply contact us for an appointment so we can get to know you and your charitable interests and to review the fund agreement. You may open your account with an initial gift of $5,000 or more (can be cash, securities, real estate or other assets). Check with us if you have unique or special assets that may be donated in a tax efficient way. The foundation charges a 1% administrative fee and .5% investment fee on the fund.
Recommending Your Gifts
Once your account is open, you are ready to begin giving! You will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your secure online account. You can view gift history, make grant recommendations, and view statements – anytime, anywhere, at your convenience.
If you’re not interested in online technology, you can download the grant recommendation form and email it to Jennifer Dolge, our Director of Donor Services & Communications at email@example.com. You can also visit us anytime at our office to make requests or view account activity.
Our due diligence process ensures that you give to viable organizations. We work closely with the nonprofits in our region and can also help you determine the best places to give your gift.
