SUMMARY:Making Advocacy Actionable
DESCRIPTION:Make Advocacy Actionable \nHow to use what we know about the brain and behavior change to increase nonprofit advocacy \nThursday\, August 22\, 2024\n10:00-11:30am Pacific  |  1:00-2:30pm Eastern \nNonprofit people care so much about their missions. They’ve courageously stepped forward to make a difference in their communities\, and they’ll move heaven and earth to deliver programs that improve lives. We need them to do one more courageous thing on top of all of this. We need them to advocate for their missions with policymakers who can influence budgets\, policies\, and implementation of public programs. We need them to add advocacy to their nonprofit portfolio. \nThis session brings together an adult learning expert and a nonprofit advocacy expert to explore what associations\, nonprofit capacity organizations\, and funders can do to increase nonprofit advocacy. We’ll provide alternatives to dry presentations about lobbying rules and doom-and-gloom calls to action. You’ll leave the session energized to evangelize nonprofit advocacy in ways that will motivate busy nonprofit people. \nThe session is interactive\, giving you time to reflect and connect with others on what you are learning. The session includes a practical workbook to help you apply lessons learned. \nPRESENTERS \nNancy Bacon (she/her) works at the intersection of adult learning and nonprofits. She is a teacher\, instructional designer\, and learning strategist who has worked in nearly every nonprofit role possible: Executive Director\, program director\, board chair\, and fundraising lead. Nancy works with nonprofits\, associations\, networks\, and government agencies to help nonprofits serve their communities with joy\, confidence\, and impact. She has trained thousands of people in-person and online\, speaks on learning and leadership\, and writes books and blogs on topics at the intersection of learning and nonprofits. Nancy created the advocacy curriculum used by three nonprofit state associations. www.nancybacon.com \nMary Alice Scott (she/her) is the Public Affairs Manager at Maine Association of Nonprofits\, where she advocates on issues impacting the state’s nonprofit sector\, keeps organizations updated about current policy trends\, and trains nonprofit staff \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRemember to use NANCY24 under “Partners” to receive the membership rate.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
