DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 17\, 2024​\n10:00AM – 2:00PM\nWenatchee\, WA \n \n\n\n\n\nWhether you are a small shop\, or a volunteer run organization\, your nonprofit’s success depends on finding qualified\, dedicated people and keeping them happy\, engaged\, and accountable. While small nonprofits face complex challenges in accessing and implementing strategic human resource management\, leaders at all levels can still pursue impactful systems\, even with limited time and resources. \nUnderstanding the essentials is critical because nonprofit HR includes areas required for compliance with local\, state\, and federal law as well as great team development. Typically\, we need at least two weeks in order to schedule an interpreter. \nVisual Descriptions: Presenters will include visual descriptions of themselves and the slides to give a person who is low-vision or blind a sense of space and place. \nIf you have additional accessibility requests\, please let us know when you register. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n \n\n\n\n\nColleen Malmassari \nColleen Malmassari is an experienced HR leader with over 15 years of expertise in Federal and Washington State employment law and practices\, as well as employee-centered strategic initiatives. Recently\, she founded Back40 Advisors LLC\, a HR consulting practice dedicated to helping organizations optimize their people strategies and back-office operations. Prior to this\, Colleen served as the Director of Human Resources at Larson Gross CPA & Consultants\, as well as HR leadership roles for two of Central Washington’s largest fruit growing and packing operations. \nColleen holds bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Spanish\, and she is certified as a Certified Professional (CP) of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM)\, as well as holds a credential from the HR Certification Institute. The dual expertise in accounting and HR leadership allows her to approach organizational challenges with a holistic perspective\, understanding both the human capital and financial implications of strategic decisions. \nThroughout her career\, Colleen has helped numerous nonprofits optimize their HR processes to better support their missions. Legal clinics are held virtually via Zoom video call. Qualifying clients are paired with an attorney for a free 1-hour limited engagement legal consultation to discuss business-transactional matters\, such as questions around: \n\nIncorporation and application for tax exemption status (general questions only)\nFederal Tax-Exempt Status (general questions only)\nNonprofit Governance\nBusiness Entity Formation\nMaintenance and Compliance with State and Federal Law\nAdvice on Corporate Governance\nTaxes (general questions only)\nEmployment\nReal Estate\nIntellectual Property \nRisk and Liability Assessment\n\nPlease keep in mind that questions which can be answered in a short amount of time are best suited for the clinic due to the 1 hour appointment time limit. We break down the task into its parts — volunteer recruitment\, engagement\, supervision\, and support — to leave you with practical tools to implement right away. You’ll also learn about free resources that you can use to train your volunteers about safety and health. \nThis is an interactive session\, so come ready to participate! It is designed for anyone within a nonprofit team involved in recruiting and supporting volunteers. Whether you are a dedicated volunteer coordinator or any other member of the team\, you’ll get ideas on how to strengthen your volunteer program. \n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\n \n \nNancy Bacon is a nonprofit educator who has served in the nonprofit roles of executive director\, founding program director\, board member\, and volunteer since 1996. She regularly teaches in topics related to nonprofit practice. Nancy co-founded the Nonprofit Learning Center to provide small and rural nonprofits access to high quality nonprofit learning. Nancy also co-hosts the Nonprofit Radio Show\, a podcast (free learning!) with tips and  tools for small nonprofits. \nCOST \n$10 for the session\, which includes one and a half hours of learning and a copy of the Volunteer Management: Attracting and Retaining Volunteers to Support Your Mission workbook.
