Harry & Kathern Lovejoy Scholarship

Jane Lovejoy desired to assist WSU students further their studies in advancement of agriculture; the unfinished goal of her father, Harry Lovejoy, who had to withdraw from his studies at WSU during the Great Depression to assist with the family farm in Waterville. He was never able to return to his studies but was able to send his only child, Jane Lovejoy to WSU where she diligently completed a degree in education and became a premiere high school English teacher and librarian for more than three decades.

As a farmer’s daughter, an educator for more than three decades and a devout Christian, Jane Lovejoy encountered many hard working students with the desire to further their education but without the means to  do so and wanted to assist them.  The ideal recipient of the Lovejoy Scholarship would be a studious young person from Central Washington who is proud to be a Cougar and is actively striving to make an agricultural contribution that would cause for greater yields from the world’s fertile lands.

This scholarship supports transfer students, nontraditional students and graduate students seeking education at WSU. The committee seeks to award students who demonstrate financial need, commitment to their studies and any direct work experience in an agriculture related industry.
