John and Peggy Kalahar Memorial SCHOLARSHIP

During high school, John Kalahar’s passion was baseball and once out of high school, that passion turned to fastpitch softball. He played, he coached, he recruited, he found sponsors, he raked the infield, and he loved it all. Peggy loved John and grew to love softball in their early years of marriage. John was heavily involved in playing and coaching men’s fastpitch three full decades: the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
In the mid-80s, as a Sociology professor at Wenatchee Valley College, John was able to secure the support and the funding to begin a women’s fastpitch team at Wenatchee Valley College. He became the first coach for the Lady Knights Fastpitch Softball Team. He was committed to success, and this meant more time on the road scouting, recruiting, as well as year-round practices and travel to distant community colleges around the state for competition. He loved every minute of it and Peggy supported his dreams wholeheartedly.
John passed away in 2015, and Peggy passed away in February 2025. The John and Peggy Kalahar Memorial Softball Scholarship was created to honor their legacy and the growth of girls and womens softball in Wenatchee. The dream is that this scholarship can help a softball player each year offset the expense of post-secondary education as well as ease the financial pressure of continuing to play the sport they love.
