Methow Valley Fund Game Changer Grant Now Open

Deadline May 1

The Community Foundation of NCW is now accepting applications for its Methow Valley Fund Game Changer Grant. A total of $100,000 is available to provide a significant funding opportunity that empowers a nonprofit or collaborative to move the needle on a Methow Valley issue.

Last year, Methow Trails was awarded the grant to help fund a permanent, year-round, multi-use trailhead facility at Cub Creek. In 2024, four organizations shared the award for programs supporting Methow Descendants with seed funding for the Hummingbird property, affordable housing through Methow Housing Trust, a modern HVAC system for the Methow Valley Community Center, and mental health curriculum for Public School Funding Alliance. Other examples of a Game Changer could be a new program or initiative or leveraging funds – anything that would be considered a game changer for the community if it did or did not receive support.

Applicants must be 501c3 public charities headquartered in and serving the Methow Valley. Government agencies, tribal agencies, schools, and fiscally sponsored programs cannot apply on their own but can be part of a collaborative application. Funds also must be spent within one year of the award.

After review, 3-4 applicants will be invited to make their 15-minute “Game Changer Pitch” to the Methow Valley Advisory Board on June 24th.

“The Methow Valley Fund Game Changer Grant was initially funded by bequests from Ken Westman and Mike Real, both of whom expressed a desire to leave legacies that supported the community they loved” said Karen Nichols, chair of the Methow Valley Fund Advisory Board and Community Foundation of NCW Trustee. “We’re so grateful to continue their legacies through this significant grant that makes a lasting impact for the Methow Valley.”

Due to being rural, remote, and geographically isolated, we must be prepared to do more than respond to emergencies. We have become a healthcare partner who fills gaps in service. The grant allowed our board the time and ability to work with a Strategic Planner to modify our plan to address those gaps.

My father was a migrant agricultural worker who eventually started his own cherry and apple orchard. He told me if I wanted to live a better life, I had to get an education. I plan on starting a career with the Chelan PUD with a passion for renewable energy and in turn give back to my parents and community for supporting my dreams.
