Community Foundation Awards $543,000 in Grants to NCW Nonprofits

The Community Foundation of NCW has awarded $543,000 to 63 nonprofits through its Regional Impact Grant (RIG) program.

The RIG is a competitive annual grant that supports core operations for eligible nonprofits in Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties who are serving their community in a variety of ways –access to arts and cultural experiences, protecting the environment, building and maintaining recreation areas, improving health services, and supporting our youth and senior populations. The grant awards range from $6,000 to $14,000 based on the organization’s budget size.

“The Regional Impact Grant is our largest funding opportunity for nonprofits in our region” said Beth Stipe, the Foundation’s Executive Director. “We’ve reshaped it over the years to better fit the needs of our nonprofits and ensure funding is balanced across organization size and geographic location enabling our communities to benefit from the critical services and quality of life enhancements they provide.”

The RIG funding comes from unrestricted dollars gifted to the foundation. “These grants wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of people in our region who contributed unrestricted resources to ensure the community they love continues to be cared for and protected for future generations,” said Stipe.

In addition, $37,000 of the grant awards came from our Partners in Giving fund comprised of annual gifts from the community. “Our Partners in Giving helps us leverage so many opportunities such as additional grant funding, increased scholarship awards, and activities that further philanthropy in our region. We’re so grateful for those that support us with these vital unrestricted gifts each year.”

GRANT RECIPIENT

Due to being rural, remote, and geographically isolated, we must be prepared to do more than respond to emergencies. We have become a healthcare partner who fills gaps in service. The grant allowed our board the time and ability to work with a Strategic Planner to modify our plan to address those gaps.

My father was a migrant agricultural worker who eventually started his own cherry and apple orchard. He told me if I wanted to live a better life, I had to get an education. I plan on starting a career with the Chelan PUD with a passion for renewable energy and in turn give back to my parents and community for supporting my dreams.
